Evelyne and I stumbled across this Ted talk this week and, after spending 24 minutes seeing what JR had accomplished around the world, in some potentially very scary places I must add, I was left amazed, inspired and somewhat determined to do something more adventurous with my photography.

JR says “I would like to bring art to improbable places, create projects so huge with the community that they are forced to ask themselves questions.”

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have the guts to do anything like what JR talks about in the video but I would like to push myself to do things out of my comfort zone, and also to see how I could maybe use what I do to help others a little more. The photos we make as photographers are incredibly valuable to our clients and I don’t underestimate that one bit. But maybe there are other avenues to help people less fortunate, who maybe can’t afford our services. Or maybe those without a voice.

At this moment I don’t have an answer to what I might do but it’s good to think outside the box every now and then, especially at the beginning of a new year when we’re all wondering how to make 2016 worthwhile. I have a project I’m hoping to get off the ground this year but maybe, if I think about it long enough, I could do my part to help make the world just a little bit better. Time will tell…

Now sit back and watch the video. I guarantee it will change the way you see things.
