Alice In Chains – Live In Birmingham

I’ve been an Alice In Chains fan since day one really.

I remember seeing them supporting Megadeth (!) at the NEC in Birmingham back in 1990 (I think). The same weekend the band hung out at the club I was working at and I got to spend an evening chatting to Layne Staley. He was such a sweet guy. He told me how much he missed his girlfriend when they were touring and how I should keep an eye out for a new band from Seattle called Mookie Blaylock. Mookie Blaylock changed their name shortly after… to Pearl Jam.

Almost 20 years later and, following Layne’s tragic passing, Alice In Chains are experiencing something of a second coming. Their new album is one of my albums of the year and their new singer, William, is the perfect person to take the band forward. On Friday night they played the Academy in Birmingham and I was extremely happy to be one of just three photographers who got to shoot the gig.
